Portland Committee for Human Rights in the Philippines (PCHRP)

We are committed to organizing Filipinos in Portland in response to the conditions of Filipinos in the U.S. and the Philippines. We bring together a core group of Filipino activists and allies to deeply study issues of racism, colonialism, and classism; and utilize interactive forum theater for social change, education and community organizing.

Through various activities, we address the root causes of poverty in the Philippines, bring awareness to the conditions of Filipinos living in Portland, and engage the community as active participants to intervene and come up with collective community solutions. Our goal is to engage community members to take action and sign online petitions and participate in letter writing campaigns to U.S. Congress to influence local and national elected officials to cut military spending to the Armed Forces of the Philippines and seek justice for all victims of human rights violations.

PCHRP is an affiliate of BAYAN USA, an alliance of progressive Filipino groups in the U.S. representing organizations of students, scholars, women, workers, and youth. As the only international chapter of Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN-Philippines), BAYAN-USA serves as an information bureau for the national democratic movement of the Philippines and as a campaign center for anti-imperialist Filipinos in the United States.
